MACHINING THREADS USING STANDARD TURNING TOOLS.

ThreadMod

ThreadMod - Thread modifier for GibbsCAM

Threadmod Overview
ThreadMod is a plugin for GibbsCAM for modifying standard thread operations with additional new machinable features.

ThreadMod works on existing (standard) thread operations in GibbsCAM, and can apply oscillating toolpaths for chipbreaking to any UN threads, Metric threads, NPT threads, BSP, any thread that using standard laydown inserts. Parameters can be adjusted for wave length, wave amplitude, alternate wave length, phase shift, amount of segments, and more.

Chipbreaking in threading can be beneficial for eliminating problems with long chips, chip build-up and jamming during unattended machining.

With ThreadMod you can also apply blunt threads or quickstart threads, using the same thread insert. With adjustable parameters you can pretty much control everything, how many revolutions to remove, cut stepovers, finetune positioning with offsets, the angle for entering material and exiting material.

As GibbsCAM controls the coordinate systems and machine configuration, it should work on any spindle or toolgroup as long as your post supports it.

ThreadMod modifies toolpaths directly and replaces the older WaveThread which was geometry based and difficult to use.

ThreadMod Changelog
All updates are available with the built-in updater in ThreadMod.

1.04
  • Added language support for non-ascii characters, Korean,Japanese,Chinese,Hindi,Vietnamese,Czech,Spanish and Polish

1.03
  • Added 'Get From Op' button, reads back ThreadMod parameters from an existing modified operation.
  • Changed default Wave Amplitude from thread height to now 2 x cut depth from orginal thread operation, tool only need to oscillate enough to break the chips.

1.02
  • Fix for blunt revolutions calculation with wave enabled and thread was a tapered thread.

1.01
  • Initial release.
